Abaco (The Bahamas) – Many Hands

Mission Trip Details

Team members will work with our partner Many Hands to implement MH’s community development and outreach strategies on Abaco Island (The Bahamas), where effects of 2019 Hurricane Dorian still affect the community. Team members will stay at Abaco Youth Camp (electricity, modern plumbing) and engage with the local community throughout the week.

Serving and projects might include:

  • Construction: debris removal, roofing, painting, landscaping, general building
  • Youth Activities/VBS: engage youth through sports camps and/or partnering with a local church for VBS activities
  • Compassion Ministry: food/clothing distribution, prayer ministry, storytelling – Agriculture/Reforestation: backyard farming initiatives, replanting

Kairos Trip

Trip Dates: May 14-21, 2024

Trip Cost: $2000-2200 (airfare included)*

Trip Open to: Kairos/college students (age 18+)

Application Deadline: Jan. 25, 2024

REVIVE Trip

Trip Dates: October 16-23, 2024

Trip Cost: $2200 (airfare included)

Trip Open to: REVIVE/young adults (20-30s)

Application Deadline: Feb. 16, 2024

*Depending on airfare costs at the time of purchase, as well as group size, this total trip cost could fluctuate. Changing COVID-19 measures may also impact the trip/cost; the Missions Department will make this information available on a case-by-case basis throughout the pre-trip process. Please be aware of this before applying!

Frequently Asked Questions

The team will depart from Des Moines and fly together into Marsh Harbour, Abaco. Upon arrival, the team will be greeted by Many Hands staff and taken to the Abaco Youth Camp.

Trip participants stay in a secured dormitory-style building on the Many Hands Abaco Youth Camp campus in Marsh Harbour. Bathrooms and showers are available. 

The total cost covers airfare, food, and lodging. Passport and vaccination costs, food while travelling, and souvenirs are additional.

A current U.S. passport is required. Visit http://travel.state.gov/passport for more information on acquiring a passport.

A COVID-19 vaccination is not currently required for travel to The Bahamas. However, this may change. Please consult your physician on recommended vaccinations which may include Hepatitis A, typhoid, and preventative medication for malaria. Click here for more info on recommended vaccinations. 

Two months before departure, at least 50 percent of the trip total must be paid. One month prior to departure, the trip must be paid for in full.
