About Our Program

An Atmosphere for Learning

Our program promotes independent thinking, problem solving and self-confidence. Children spend their day in active learning – interacting with real things and caring people all around them.

Class Activities

We believe play is a child’s joyful “work,” and we offer a variety of materials to stimulate interests and abilities of the children. We plan both structured and unstructured activities each day. Our centers of interest include themes such as writing, dramatic play, blocks, table toys and manipulatives, science and discovery, books and listening, and a creation station. Our materials are carefully chosen to promote exploration, which allows and encourages children to think creatively and independently.

Join the Fun

Our parents are truly viewed as an integral part of our program! We invite parents to come read to the class or help with special celebrations. We have an open house in the fall, a Christmas program for families, plus a year-end picnic and a fun graduation celebration for Pre-K and Transitional Kindergarten students in May. Moms and dads, grandparents and siblings are welcome anytime! Just let us know how you’d like to be involved and be sure to check our calendar for special events.

Frequent Communication

We feel it’s important for you to get a glimpse into what happens each week and month. Teachers send monthly newsletters outlining the exciting plans for the weeks ahead. They also send home weekly “conversation starters” about students’ friends, books read, songs learned and more, to give you some specific clues to help you talk with your child about the fun they’re having at Hope West Des Moines Preschool!
