After Alpha is the next step after completing Alpha. Participants will explore the basics of the Bible’s overall story as well as a variety of ways to pray. Join and study with your small group or as an individual.

Intro to the Bible is an overview of the story of the Bible, taking a 30,000-foot view from Genesis to Revelation. We’ll focus on the major events, characters and themes of the Bible to help you gain an understanding of the overarching story of God working in the world.

Intro to Prayer is designed as a review of the basics of prayer. We’ll discuss questions such as why we pray and the problem of unanswered prayer, and also introduce several new prayer patterns to expand your personal vocabulary of prayer.

The Lord’s Prayer is the most well-known, most beloved prayer Christians have used throughout the centuries. Because the prayer is so familiar to us, we sometimes don’t realize how profound and powerful the Lord’s Prayer actually is. In this course, we will look more closely at the Lord’s Prayer to discover what the prayer says about God, about us and about how followers of Jesus are called to live. Join and study with your small group or as an individual.

We know that to stay healthy, we need to care for our bodies by moving, fueling and resting. Habits like good sleep, healthy eating and regular exercise help us to function at our best. It’s the same with our spiritual lives! Spiritual disciplines are habits Christians have practiced through the centuries to keep our spiritual lives healthy and help us grow closer to God. In this class, we will explore several spiritual disciplines to follow to help us stay in step with Jesus and grow deeper in love with our heavenly Father.

We know that “if it’s in the Bible, it’s Lutheran,” but how do Lutherans understand doctrines like baptism and communion? This class will explore how Lutherans understand several basic Christian beliefs.

Jesus was a master at telling stories, and we find many of these short stories, or parables, in Luke’s gospel. These parables aren’t simple stories for young children, but are multi-layered, richly symbolic stories uncovering the truth of the Kingdom of God, all set in the everyday world of Jesus’ original audience.

In this class, we’ll explore the cultural context along with the literary forms Jesus used, which will help us understand many of the nuances in the parables that we in the West often miss. Jesus’ parables contain a depth of meaning for our own lives that just might surprise you!
