Puerto Rico Mission Trip Details
This is a new trip for Lutheran Church of Hope! We will be working with our partner Convoy of Hope. Convoy of Hope began serving in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria brought devastation in 2017. Following the initial relief efforts through Convoy of Hope’s Disaster Services team, Field Teams began rehabilitation efforts — helping communities and churches work toward long-term sustainability.
While certain rehabilitation efforts continue, Convoy of Hope is also moving toward developmentally focused work, such as women’s empowerment and girls’ empowerment.
Field Teams continue to walk forward with local people and church leaders to fight against poverty and hopelessness. Each opportunity will be somewhat different depending on the team and the current needs on the ground.
Field Teams assist with a wide variety of projects including construction, community development, and relational ministry to both under-resourced and marginalized community members.
Trip Dates: March 15-22, 2025
Trip Cost: $1,500-$1,900 (depending on airfare)*
Trip open to: Anyone age 16 (ages 14-15 with parent) or older.
Requirements: Must have attended or be registered for Missions 101 Class.

We will fly from Des Moines to Puerto Rico.
The total cost covers food, lodging and transportation. Passport and vaccination costs, food while traveling, and souvenirs are additional.
A current U.S. passport is not required. A driver’s license or identification card must be a Real ID.
Currently there are no vaccinations needed. Please consult with your doctor for any recommended vaccines. Click here for more information about travel vaccinations.
Three months before departure, at least 50 percent of the trip total must be paid. One month before departure, the trip must be paid for in full.
Day 1: Fly to Puerto Rico and arrive at Convoy of Hope site.
Day 2: Worship with a local church.
Days 3-6: Do assigned projects.
Day 7: Culture day.
Day 8: Fly home.
